If you only know Edvard Munch through his famous - and still rather disturbing - work "The Scream", there is a lot more to discover about the artist! Born in the south of Norway in 1863, Munch first planned to study engineering, but after a year of illness, he abandoned those studies to become a painter. Munch's early paintings were heavily influenced by Naturalism and Impressionism. However, he became interested in using painting to depict a state of mind rather than reproducing the physical world. His paintings, including "Madonna" and "Puberty", have become some of the most celebrated and psychologically fascinating artworks produced in the twentieth century.
