As Valentine's Day approaches, a selection of artworks of the god of desire. Classical Greek art portrays Cupid's Hellenistic counterpart, Eros, as a youth, but the Romans preferred to depict Cupid as a chubby child. Later artists tended to copy the Roman version of Cupid, especially when depicting him with his mother Venus, but he still appears as an older boy in paintings and sculptures of his romance with the mortal Psyche.
