In 1921 the 490cc version was introduced, which became the famous 16H for its sturdiness. In 1938, Norton equips the ‘16H 499 m³ ' for side car use. 100.000 motorcycles of this type were made for the armed forces. Its engine with side valves and cylinder head made of cast iron entails a separate gearbox (four gear). The only difference between the military and the civilian version is the different color, and a protective part for the engine.
