Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
Next month will mark 150 years since the birth of French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (born 24 November 1864). We celebrate this milestone by taking a look through a portfolio of the artist's most influential works.
Late nineteenth-century Paris, the home of Toulouse-Lautrec, saw the development of modern printmaking techniques, as well as the rise of Montmartre's decadent nightlife culture. Toulouse-Lautrec's posters capture both of these phenomena in a style that was innovative for its time and gave the advertising lithograph its own rightful place in art history.
